William A Shea Municipal Stadium, known by all as Shea, was opened in 1964 for the expansion New York Mets who had played for 2 years at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan. Shea is a round stadium and was originally built as a home for the NFL's NY Jets. The Jets played there until 1984 when they moved to the Meadowlands in New Jersey. The NY football Giants also played there in 1975 while Yankee Stadium (where they normally played) was undergoing renovations. One of the oldest stadiums in the National League Shea will finish its run in September 2008. It is being replaced by Citi Park Stadium which is being designed to resembe the famed Ebbet's Field of Brooklyn Dodger fame.
