A great vintage view of the Train Station in Englishtown, Monmouth County, New Jersey c 1906. The Borough of Englishtown was first settled in the late 1600's and named after the English Family who settled there in the early 1700's. Englishtown played a major role in the Revolutionary War. During the Battle of Monmouth in 1778, Englishtown was the headquarters for the American Army. Because Englishtown was on a main highway it became a trading center for the surrounding country side. In the mid 1800's to the early 1900's, Englishtown was a busy, prosperous country town. Many of the houses in town were built in the later part of the eighteen hundreds, and a few remain that were built in the seventeen hundreds. Today Englishtown is a suburban community and home to the famous Englishtown Flea Market
