Harrisburg the county seat of Dauphine County is also the capital of the Commenwealth of Pennsylvania. Located on the Susquehanna River, Harrisburg was part of the Pennsylvania canal system. It was a center of industry and had the first steel mill in the United States. It was also a major rail center and during the Civil War was a major training center for Union soldiers.
