Watching over the ocean since 1881.
In this vintage view we see Lucy with the Elephant Hotel at its feet. The ninety-ton tin elephant, has been gazing out at the ocean since 1881. She has been used to sell real estate, as a dance hall located in its stomach, as a gimmick to draw guests to the hotel and most recently as a museum dedicated to oceanfront history. She is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Jersey Shore.
