On the Causeway

On the Causeway
Originally built in 1914 this bridge was (and still is) the only way onto Long Beach Island without a boat. This pencil sketch art depicts the causeway as it passes through tiny Cedar Bonnet Island on its way west to the mainland, shortly after the repeal of Prohibition. This causeway was replaced by the new causeway after the storm of 1962 but remnants still remain. "Charlies" on the right hand of the sketch is the popular Dutchman Restaurant today.
